Filler - video game survey

Yep.

1) What was your FIRST video game console?
probably the Atari Jaguar, but all I remember is the NES.

2) Name a few games you played on said console.
the original Legend of Zelda (gold cartridge FTW), Dr. Mario, Tetris

3) Excluding handhelds, how many VG consoles do you own presently?
Gamecube, broken-ass PS2 & broken-ass Xbox. but there is a (working) PS2, Wii and Xbox 360 in the house

4) Were you a Street Fighter nut? Any character in particular?
nope

5) If you think Capcom is a FUCKING awesome company with kickass character designs?
wut

6) Here's the scenario.. You had some friends over and you all ate FRIED CHICKEN! After the meal you all decide to play some video games. As your friend reaches for a controller you notice his/her hands are very "greasy." Are you the type that would insist they wash their hands before pawing the controller, or is it no big deal?
i'd definitely ask him to wash his nasty-ass paws first, especially as chances are likely it's not even my controller he's going to be touching.

7) What's your favorite RPG/Action RPG?
generally I'm a big queer for the Elder Scrolls series, especially Morrowind & Oblivion. I also really dig FFX and the bit I've played of Fallout 3 was pretty awesome

8) Do you prefer 2D games or 3D games?
shiny graphics are awesome, but I really care more about the quality of gameplay (controls/engine & story)

9) Are you an SNK fan?
who

9) Are you good at DDR?
ugh. no.

10) Who wants to kick that dog's ass from Duck Hunt?
why are you asking me who? I do, sure, but why the hell would I know everyone who does?

11) Have you skipped out on important events in life because of video games?
I can't think of skipping on any important events for a video game? I did stay home and play MGS2 instead of going to prom, but I didn't want to go to prom, anyway - if I didn't have my PS2 I would've been on the computer or reading or something anyway

12) Do you listen to video game music?
I listen to a lot of music, and soundtracks can make some good chill-out/muse music. I don't listen to a lot of video game music as a rule though, a lot of it just doesn't sound 'right' to me when it's played outside the game. Final Fantasy soundtracks, though, were a staple in my old D&D games!

13) Have you ever cosplayed a VG character?
no. more of a lack of opportunity, though - I don't do cons, etc. I do want to go as a headcrab zombie for Hallowe'en some year, though.

14) Have you ever been in an arcade playing a fighting game, KICKING ASS, and then some 6 year old asian kid comes in and OWNS YOU??
nope

15) Name three games you would love to see remakes of if it was done properly.
I can't think of anything, really... most of the games I like are either new enough that remaking them would only slightly improve graphics, or so old that I enjoy the 2D campiness of them. only would I could say would be Pokémon Red/Blue, because the sprites were atrocious, but those have been remade.

16) Mario or Sonic?
Mario. I watched way too many nature shows when I was a kid, I hated Sonic because he and Knuckles looked absolutely nothing like the animals they are supposed to be lol

17) When a movie shows up in the theaters, let's use Spider-man as an example, are you likely to buy the GAME version?
no. even if I really loved the movie. movie video games always suck - possibly the only exception was the first Pirates of the Caribbean video game, which was actually just Sea Dogs 2 and had absolutely nothing to do with the movie (there wasn't even Jack Sparrow in it, c'mon).

18) What is your LEAST favorite genre of video games? (ex. fighting, sports, shooters, etc.)
Sports games, I don't like playing racing or fighting games but they're fun to watch someone else play sometimes. sports games are boring to watch and play.

19) Is there a game out there that you feel was unique and didn't get enough love?
Monster Rancher, Spectrobes, Gitaroo Man ...

20) Have you ever verbally abused a game because you couldn't beat one of the levels and/or bosses?
oh yeah I'm one of those people that cuss and yell at the video game when I'm frustrated. I don't through controllers, though.

21) Do you own any VG apparel?
somewhere I have a few shirts - PS2, Gamecube, MGS2, Top Gun, probably a few others - I used to get a lot of free stuff from an Electronics Boutique I frequented. they've all gotten buried/lost in a lot of moves, though.

22) What are your thoughts on the live-action Super Mario Bros movie?
it's horrible in a delightful Evil Dead sort of way.

23) On that note, what did you think about the live-action Street Fighter movie?
didn't see it

24) Who hottest out of the KOF chicks?
u hottest out of KOF chix

25) Do you say "old-school" a lot when you're having a VG conversation with others?
no. though it's sad that "old school" is actually kind of an applicable term to video games

26) Have you ever lent someone a game and they returned it to you damaged?
fortunately, no, I've gotten damaged DVDs though :[

27) Do you own any imported games?
no, though I've seriously considered buying a copy of Paint by DS

28) Are you ready for this meme to be over, or could you keep going?
i have to pee

29) In this scenario, let's pretend you're going to get a video game tattoo! What would you get and where?
something Elder Scrolls-related, specifically Morrowind. maybe something in Daedric script, it does look pretty, and it'd be one of those things that'd look like some tribal tattoo at a quick glance. also Morrowind is the only game I feel confident I wouldn't entirely regret a tat of in 10 years

30) Have you ever cried after you beat a game? If so why?
didn't cry, but the end of MGS was pretty heartstring-tugging, because I failed the torture scene and Meryl died.

... Generally my favourite holiday, and/or the only I really care about. Alas, though, for I am off to work soon. People need their beer and cigarettes, you know. I have a turkey sandwich and daifuku, good enough for me~

I don't think that (in general) folks ought to have to take one day of the year specifically to be thankful; on the other hand I think it's pretty reasonable to try and sit folks down at least once a year to really think about thinks they are or ought to be thankful for. Sometimes it's easy to overlook these things.

As for me? Well, I'm thankful for a lot of things, but mostly: I'm thankful for The Master being such a wonderful, docile little fatty; I'm thankful (as always) for having such an awesome family; and thankful (again- as always) for having such awesome friends. Especially you guys that have unquestioningly been there for me this last year ... you guys that have stayed up late to give me support, encouraged me, continually reminded me that yeah, someone DOES give a shit, or even just simply asked "... are you okay? What happened?" and listened. There's not too many of you, but you guys know who you are, and you're all fucking awesome. Happy Thanksgiving (even if one of you isn't American lol - you can still have some tofurkey) <3

Also i am thankful for the rain yesterday HOMG WEATHER. *glee*

<lj:music>Youtube video babbling about corn snakes</lj:music>

shoot me plz

Rules:
Step One: - Make a post (public, friends locked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real-life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

Step Two

- Surf around your friends list (or friends friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

- You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

- There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

And The List Itself:

1. A giftcard (of any denomination) to Exotic Pets. actually i'm not sure they even do gift cards. O WELL LOL

2. ART of course durrhurr. i dunno, i don't honestly figure I'm going to get anything off this post anyhow, so I'm not gonna bother listing specifics. you can ask, i guess. mostly i'd really like "expendable"-themed con badges and/or arts of the pwwka, also stuff with my BFFlols but yeah, ask for details i guess

3. Threadless t-shirts fuck yeah. granted i don't like all of the shirts on threadless, though. so here is a bunch i do like. Men's M or L size only plz (i don't like pullover hoodies)
one (zombies!) - two (lol vamps) - three (noodles) - four (cat) - five (OH GOD YESSSSSS.) - six (plumber teehee) - seven (fuck you tablet) - eight (k this is awesome) - nine (also: yes.) - ten (if you know me YOU KNOW HOW AWESOME THIS IS)

4. pay off my cell phone durrhurr

5. this is pretty much standard every year but yeah SHARKS plz

6. hell I dunno just pack up some random crafty bits*/sketches/art/toys/whatever laying around your house (*=especially random trinkets, bits of fabric/fur left over, puff paints, crap like that)

7. actually now that I think about it gift cards/money for either Curl Up N' Dye (Las Vegas location yes i know there's one in Mpls), or Who Duz Your Hair would be awesome

8. 6g or 4g pretties (clear earskins would be sex. i dislike most plugs/tunnels, prefer danglies, no allergies known of)

9. I don't know. a free therapy session? a kitten? a baby boa? fffffffff

I really doubt I'm going to get anything from anyone, also I don't really like posting this much anyway because I feel horrible and guilty if I know I'm going to get something from someone. :P
Also don't feel like posting my address; you can reach me by e-mail at fuzzworm(at)gmail.com
If you want to surprise me for some insane reason, you can politely ask str1d or saoirsegryph for a mailing address for me. :P

Beer and cigarettes once went together like bread and butter, but now smoking in bars is banned in many cities. When you see smokers standing outside bars in the cold and rain, what is your first reaction? Walk on by, join them, or scorn them?

View other answers

Smoking is still allowed in casinos in this city. It is not allowed indoors in restaurants (and technically probably not outdoors either, but no one enforces that) due to a clean air act, however when pretty much all of the valley's bills are paid for by the big casinos they're not really going to do much to ban smoking in the casinos. The big casinos are kept so well aired-out and clean anyway that I always forget smoking is allowed in them until I see an ashtray (i.e. they are not smoky or dusty and definitely don't stink).
Pretty much all bars have smoking as well, because they separate the dining area from the bar itself, and by installing x amount of video poker/slot machines they can register as a casino by technicality and thus allow smoking.
The hookah bars have a clever way of circumventing this. They only serve herbal blends before 9pm; after 9 you can get shisha but the menu shuts down to basic fried foods or ready-to-eat things (like hummus or baba ganoush), thus after 9 it is technically no longer a restaurant/eating area. The largest/main hookah bar just has a separate lounge for the hookah smoking with the same basic menu; you can get things from the restaurant too, but they're sold as "to go" items and they just so happen to let you open up the boxes and eat them in the hookah lounge.

I'm a smoker so obviously I'm not going to scorn other smokers huddling out should I be in an area with a smoking ban. I do like to smoke when I'm drinking, and in places with a smoking ban quite frankly I'd rather buy drinks and go to a friend's house (in which i have to go outside to smoke anyway) than go to a bar and still have to step outside for a smoke. Plus drinks & food are cheaper that way anyhow and you don't have to worry about finding enough space for everyone to sit together.

I don't feel the urge to get particularly riled up about "clean air acts" in so far as the smoking ban goes. I don't particularly care for second-hand smoke myself, especially not if I am eating, and also I don't mind having to get up and go outside to have a cigarette when I'm in a restaurant (or someone's house). However, again, I do like smoking when I'm drinking - plus I'm sitting down and hanging out at a single location for much longer - I like to be able to stay where I am and light up. And a lot of drinkers do smoke, as well as gamblers; at the very least I do think banning smoking in bars/casinos is a bad idea, and guaranteed to hurt the bars' business. By some extension banning smoking in 24-diners is a good way to ensure some business loss too; most especially in cold months in cold places. :P

because i'm such a fatty, i even broke my chair.

Bold the establishments you've been to. Underline your favorites. Strikethrough the ones you don't like.
(i find the title of "unhealthy meme" a little misleading, as this isn't just fast food joints - some of these places serve food that might even be GOOD for you.)

1. Arby's (i know their roast beef is so terrible, but it's so goooood)
2. Beefeater
3. Benihana
4. Black Angus
5. Buffalo Grill
6. Burger King (it's shitty fast food, it'll probably make me sick to eat at.)
7. California Pizza Kitchen (i liked it, but hey, sometimes i like putting things like alfredo sauce, artichokes, chicken and cheddar cheese on pizza)
8. Carl's Jr.
9. Chick-fil-A
10. Chipotle (TWO POUND BURRITO nom nom)
11. <s>Chuck E. Cheese's</s> (loved it as a kid, who didn't, but the memories i have of their pizza makes me want to gag now.)
12. Claim Jumper (not sure if their prices are quite worth it, but really really good)
13. Cluck-U-Chicken
14. Del Taco (better than taco bell, and cheap)
15. Denny's (food is meh, but i used to spend hours hanging out here)
16. El Pollo Loco
17. Fatburger (OM NOM NOM)
18. Hard Rock Cafe (that's right i'm in Vegas and never been to one of these)
19. Hardee's
20. Harvey's
21. HomeTown Buffet (this is owned by the same corporation that runs Old Country Buffet)
22. Hooters
23. In-n-Out
24. Jack in the Box
25. Johnny Rocket's
26. Kelsey's
27. KFC
28. Krispy Kreme (Dunkin Donuts is better, as far as coporate donut chains go)
29. Long John Silver's
30. <s>McDonald's</s> (anything other than chicken nuggets here makes me sick)
31. Oporto
32. Outback Steakhouse (hit or miss. sometimes it's fantastic, sometimes it sucks. they always overcook my steak. what part of "I WANT IT STILL TWITCHING" makes you think medium?)
33. Planet Hollywood (i recall they had fantastic burgers. and a really, really good malt after a harrowing landing on a plane.)
34. Quizno's (better than Subway, but pricier and still, ultimately, shitty fast food.)
35. Rainforest Cafe (overpriced, but all right)
36. Red Lobster (yyyyeah i worked here for months, i've eaten almost everything on the menu. for what it's worth, for being a large corporate seafood chain, i promise you their fish actually is quite fresh, and good quality.)
37. Red Robin
38. Red Rooster
39. Señor Frog's (i wanted to go to the one in Cozumel, but my parents were afraid of the water. don't blame them!)
40. Skyline Chili
41. Sonic (pretty decent fast food. tip to my homies back in MN, this is on par with Culver's in quality and price. make the drive to St. Paul for a toaster!)
42. <s>Subway</s> (greasy, shitty sandwiches that are 70% bread, 25% lettuce and 5% meat. i'm not sure i can eat at Subway anymore - Potbelly has ruined me to good hoagies, and some bad experiences make the smell of Subway turn my stomach now.)
43. Sweet Tomatoes (it's a salad buffet. awesome! though i could just eat the cornbread for dinner nom nom nom)
44. T.G.I.Friday's (haven't been for years but i remember it was good)
45. Taco Bell (not bad, sometimes i want a crunch wrap, but now if i really just want Mexican food i'll go to Chapala's)
46. TCBY (also haven't been for years, do these exist outside of malls?)
47. The Old Spaghetti Factory
48. Tim Horton's
49. Wendy's
50. <s>White Castle</s> (NO NO NO NO BARF. it's like someone ate nothing but onions for a week and crapped them out and they made little greasy square patties out of ONION SHIT and put them in a bun. gag.)
